"How can we connect history to other disciplines?"

In my first year of teaching something I would really like to focus on is finding new and creative ways to connect history with other disciplines. This may come in the form of collaborative projects between teachers, or simply an awareness and inclusion of what is being taught in one class in my own history content. By helping students draw these connections between content we as teachers are helping to deepen their learning and understanding.

Something else that will be a focus of my practice will be related to the development of community within the classroom. Over the course of my student teaching I have realized that I need to put more work into building strong connections with all of the students in my class. During my observations, my supervisor noticed there were some students who I had built deep connections with, and there were others that I did not have as strong of a connection with. It can be easy to connect with students you share positionality with, and with other you may need to work actively to foster a connection.
